Beijing Huaxia Jianlong Mining Technology Co., Ltd., one of China's top ten metallurgical and mining companies, announced that it will invest US$150 million to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary, Tianlong Kazakhstan Mining Co., Ltd., in the Astana International Financial Centre in Kazakhstan, to fully take over the group's mineral resource layout in Central Asia.
Founded in 2003, Huaxia Jianlong has deep roots in mineral exploration, production, and processing, with operations covering multiple provinces and cities in China. It holds mining rights for key metals such as iron, copper, lead, and zinc. In 2020, its revenue reached 10.744 billion yuan. Its subsidiary, the Longxin deposit in Benxi, Liaoning Province, boasts reserves exceeding 2.4 billion tons, making it a core force in China's metallurgical and mining sector. This overseas expansion will see Tianlong Mining focus on the exploration and processing of copper, iron, lead, and zinc, becoming a core hub for Jianlong Group's overseas resource development.
Kazakhstan, a major resource-rich country in Central Asia, possesses over $46 trillion in unexplored mineral reserves. Its reserves of key minerals such as copper and iron rank among the world's top. In 2024, mining output accounted for 13.12% of its GDP, making it a pillar industry of its national economy.
Meanwhile, the "Economic and Trade Cooperation Plan (2024-2028)" signed by China and Kazakhstan explicitly strengthens strategic mineral cooperation. Coupled with Kazakhstan's allowance for 100% foreign ownership in non-uranium mining projects, this has created a golden window of opportunity for Chinese investment.
Leveraging Jianlong Group's 42 million-ton steel production capacity, Huaxia Jianlong will construct a closed-loop industrial chain encompassing "overseas mining—domestic smelting—global sales," reducing raw material costs and strengthening resource security.
This strategic move is not only a crucial measure for ensuring the company's supply chain security but also reflects the accelerating trend of globalization among Chinese mining enterprises. It injects new vitality into China-Kazakhstan "Belt and Road" industrial cooperation and provides a valuable practical model for other companies expanding overseas.
